so...the coat projects were put on hold due to many hours of physical work getting my mannequins looking "glamourous" and spiffy for our corporate visit...but i am back on track now looking up materials online and preparing the "studio" for the hours of work ahead...it will be a treat to work on something of my own design rather than the merchandise i have at work...which is no easy thing to dazzle with in a fashionable way on our aging mannequins.
many people have a misunderstanding of the work i actually do at the department store i choose to call "The Red Star." it has wrecked my back, my knees, even my ankles and elbows over the years...although i do enjoy the dressing of the mannequins and promotion of our trendier stuff, there is much dirty and physical labor involved in the whole process of getting all the Christmas out in the store and making it look fantastic and magical for the holidays.
i am definitely more of a sloth when it comes to physical stuff and enjoy the thought process of design instead...i don't mind sewing and creating, but lifting of heavy mannequins and shelving, and dusty days in the Barn pulling out the trees and red boxes, stapling up paper to the walls so that the patterns match, etc is harrowing. my hands are a mess of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and yanked cuticles...
the constant up-and-down on ladders and lifting and twisting of heavy things leaves me with a hurting lower back and numbness in the right leg from my sciatic nerve. i can only say that the idea of cutting out patterns, assembling the pieces, and tweaking the designs of the coats i have in mind for the people that i know and love has me looking forward to the next few weeks.
